Angus is a Research Associate working on human interaction with a robot assistant in a hospital. He previously worked as an Applied Scientist at Amazon Alexa AI, and on machine learning / data science projects within The NHS, Scottish Government, and private clients in many sectors including finance.
He is studying his PhD in Artificial Intelligence and has both an MSc in Artificial Intelligence with Speech and Multimodal Interaction (Distinction), and a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics.
Won Heriot-Watt's Societal Impact Award (a team effort!) in 2022.
2nd place at The Furhat Hackathon in Stockholm in 2019
Granted The Data Lab's Industrial Doctorate Funding Award in 2019
2nd place at the Edinburgh Tourism Innovation Hackathon in 2017
Ran the Spartan Ultramarathon in Wales, 2022. This was a 58k race with 71 obstacles and an elevation gain of 2,800m (Ben Nevis twice!).
Have also completed a few marathons. The first was in Edinburgh in 2015, and the last was the London Marathon 2022.
Started and grew online flat searching groups. I sold these to a letting agent at 40,000 members.
Was a qualified lifeguard in 2014.
I founded a wooden sunglasses company while studying mathematics. These were sold in shops across Scotland and online.
Flew in a helicopter while dressed as an elf in 2011.
